This volume contains reviewed papers. The invited lectures considered the many challenges posed by adding one element to the base formed by others: turbulence and turbulent mixing in the absence of combustion through to turbulent mixing dominated by chemistry and combustion. The Symposium benefited from experimental, theoretical and computational contributions, which were focussed on either fundamental or more practical questions. Extensive discussions that followed each paper are included and add to the richness of the Proceedings.

The dynamics of transition from laminar to turbulent flow remains to this day a major challenge in theoretical and applied mechanics. A series of IUTAM symposia held over the last twenty five Author: Rama Govindarajan. Results of experimental research on aerodynamic and acoustic control of subsonic turbulent jets by acoustic excitation are presented.
It was demonstrated that these control methods, originated by authors, not only can intensify mixing (by acoustic irradiation at low frequency), but also notably ease it (at high-frequency irradiation).

The mixing performance was assessed using flow visualization techniques. The effects of fluid viscosity on mixing time were investigated. The results are very encouraging and are suggestive that the use of synthetic jets in mixing is a viable alternative to the conventional methods of mixing in by: Andrew Pollard has 43 books on Goodreads with ratings.
